Downtown Traffic Flow Meeting - October 16
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD!
-
Streetscapes Stakeholders (business/property owners and residents):
Don't let others decide what is best for you or your business! The downtown traffic solution options are about to be decided and now is the time to voice your concerns! Traffic solutions being proposed for the north-south corridor along Highway 17/50th Avenue could mean drastic changes in terms of traffic flows and parking in the downtown. These changes could have a major impact on your business or property.
Streetscapes strongly encourages you to attend a meeting of Streetscapes stakeholders to cast your vote on the options presented by Stantec Consulting. The purpose is to create a unanimous motion which will be presented to the City representing the wishes of all stakeholders. Brad Zurevinski of Stantec will be in attendance to explain the options and how the conclusions were arrived at. The final draft of Stantec's report is expected mid-November.
The three options are as follows:
1. Removal of all on-street parking along 50th avenue to accomodate two lanes of traffic in each direction.
49th avenue will be maintained as is with an extension to 62nd street.
2. 49th avenue to consist of two northbound lanes, one southbound lane and one parking lane.
50th avenue to have two southbound lanes, one northbound lane, and one parking lane.
Traffic signals would be synchronized to optimize traffic.
3. A one-way couplet system with 50th avenue used for southbound traffic and 49th avenue for northbound.
The meeting will take place:
Thursday October 16, 2008
7:30am to 8:30am
Legacy Centre
(5101-46th Street)
Coffee and muffins will be available.
Please remember that good attendance is necessary to ensure a strongly supported unified message
can be delivered to City Hall.
